2 out of 3 - not bad!

January 31st, 2008

Week 3 of bootcamp I’ve managed to roll out of bed 2 out of the 3 days this week.  I could have gone on Tuesday but in the midst of being sick and just getting on medication my sleeping was rather erratic.  Thankfully I’ll be able to make up the 3 days I missed in the last weeks so at least I’m getting my money’s worth! My entire body is sore from the workout…which is good.  I am finally getting my energy back and starting to have the desire to workout on a regular basis like I did before I got married (I blame everything on getting married including being happy! LOL).

Slow and steady wins the race….slow and steady…

a hairy situation

January 30th, 2008

It’s GONE! Well, 9 inches of it. I’m all about the new me in 2008 including have short hair for the first time. I asked the girl that did my hair if I finally looked my age and not 23 (like everyone says I look) she said “You don’t look older or younger you just look more stylish” - who wouldn’t want to look more stylish? I am very pleased w/ my new look . For the first time in probably over a year, I finally want to do my hair! YAY!!! p.s. go here if you want to have a happy hair day!

Doesn’t life ever get boring that you just want to get up and do something crazy?!?! Our friend Jared’s call couldn’t have come at a better time.  He called to see if we’d go to the Detroit Auto Show w/ him and his wife Jodi.  Of course, we said yes! I loved that it was last minute and sort of spontaneous…ok, so it’s not like we were super crazy or anything…but it was fun.  We left at 5 p.m. on Sat. night and got home about 2 a.m.!!  Our night was filled with engines, cars more expensive than homes and lots of people watching LOTS of people watching. If I had to talk about one hobby I was good at, I’d have to say people watching.  We topped it off by having a fancy 4th meal at Denny’s mmmm :) It was a good time and I love making memories! So if you’re ever up for a crazy night, you know who to call!  Here are some photos… {click here to see the full set}

Themes

January 29th, 2008

Just so ya know… I can’t make up my mind so my site’s theme is going to be changing quite a bit till I find one I like!  Thanks for reading!

the little stephanie that could…

January 24th, 2008

5:15 first alarm goes off…steph rolls over turns it off…starts talking to herself trying to  talk herself out of getting up from her warm cozy bed to sleep for another hour before work….5:35 next alarm goes off…steph sits straights up and gets out of bed in time her for workout!!!!  May I remind all my kind readers that stephanie is NOT a morning person.  Who wouldn’t want to workout at 6 a.m. with a warm up of 100 jumping jacks and 50 squats?  I don’t, but I did.  YAY!!!!!!

Successfully Failing….

January 23rd, 2008

So last week I blogged about the bootcamp I signed up for….well, this week has not been a good one.  I didn’t go on Tuesday b/c I was sick, I didn’t get up this morning b/c I turned off my alarm and rolled over and slept till 7 a.m.  If it’s one thing I’m good at…it’s failing.  *sigh*

At least tomorrow is another day….

Tagged again!

January 15th, 2008

My good friend’s mom (who is now also my good friend) Susan tagged me again! Click here for my first tagged post.  I will attempt yet again to find 7 other things that you may not know about me.

1.  James and I are 4.5 years apart - I am older, but he is more mature

2. We are both half somethings….he’s 1/2 brazilian and I’m 1/2 mexican (I know you already knew that…but someone out there didn’t!)

3. James was my first serious boyfriend, we bought the first wedding ring I tried on and bought the first wedding dress I tried on! Incidently, James is also my first (and only) husband!!!!

4.  I met Miss USA in 2000 while at a competition for Delta Epsilon Chi - she was very short, but very nice.

5.  I always run into people in random places!  Examples:  While on vacation in Mexico w/ my fam.  my friend Stephanie from High School was in line ahead of us w/ her husband!  When I did study abroad in Spain I was walking up stairs to a castle when I ran into my old roomie Julie’s sister Amy!  That same trip we were walking through a field and I ran into my friend Mike who was on a mission for our church (I didn’t even know he was on a mission!) My latest encounter was this past May when I was in Denver, at a crowded downtown mall I ran into my friend Michelle whom I worked with when I lived in Utah!

6.   Whenever I get food cravings, I have them for a long time. Example: I love shrimp, I have had shrimp for dinner on Friday, Sunday and for lunch today!

7.  I hate wire hangers.  HATE them.  All of the hangers in our closet are white, all of them.

There you have it. My quirks exploited. :)  Feel free to post a “tag” on your blog!

Getting up and getting over it.

January 15th, 2008

“The only place where your dream becomes impossible is in your own thinking.”  - Robert H. Schuller

So instead of listing out what my new year’s resolutions are going to be they are going to be in various posts at various times in no particular order.  As I begin to embark on each new year’s resolution so will a post follow.  Which leads me to today’s post.  Getting up and getting over it.  If you know me, I joke about my weight and the way I feel about myself.  While humor is a good way to shake things off…it does not actually make me lose weight (go figure).  So there you have it.  Today marked my first at my 6 a.m. bootcamp  - this is not the first time I’ve done these camps, I did a series of 3 before I got married and lost 15 lbs.  My goal is 50 lbs by my birthday, there I said it. FIFTY POUNDS!!! That’s a 5 year old child! So roughly I’ll need to lose about 8 lbs each month which is a bout 2-3 lbs a week.   There’s a myriad of reasons why 50 is a magical number…the list could go on and on..but there are 3 main reasons: #1. so i’m not fat anymore #2. i don’t get the “you need to lose weight” talk from the dr. EVERYTIME i go #3. giving my body time to recoop and become healthy so that hopefully 2008 is a child bearing year for me :)

I’m not gonna lie, getting up at 5:40 was not easy for me as I’m a night owl.  Don’t ask me what I’m missing at 11 p.m. in my little apartment…but if something’s going to happen, I’ll be up for it! However, luckily for me, James is ready and willing to help me reach my goal - a source of strength I know I’ll be leaning on for.

Now, some of you may remember a similar post last year about a contest I was having with a friend - we actually did really well, for about 2 weeks…then the holidays came and I just didn’t have my will-power with me during the holidays.  But she’s come back and she’s not letting me order cokes with limes anymore OR going through the drive-thru of any fast food establishment.

I am going to do this. I have to do this.  I want to do this.  I will do this.

Yikes, I’m beginning to start sounding like Dr. Phil or some self-help book…but alas it’s time to get up and get over it!

Home Cookin’

January 13th, 2008

**disclaimer of this post: I am not a professional cook, nor is cooking a passion of mine…BUT as this is a new year, it is one of my goals to explore the culinary side of Stephanie. The following depicts our Sunday dinner.  I don’t have a recipe per say for this dish, but I’ve had this dish several times at the cafeteria at work, so I watched the guy make it and tried the best I could.  It actually was quite delish, so if you want the ingredients and or would like to come over to try it out. Just let me know!**

A day away in Pittsburgh

January 13th, 2008

Early Saturday morning James and I headed over to Pittsburgh, PA to hangout w/ our friends Jason, Tabitha & Adam (he came from Michigan to play)  We started out by going down to the “strip” as it’s known downtown the strip is a street that is filled with ethnic food stores and little boutiques it is a weekend hot spot and is always buzzin’.  Our first stop was Deluca’s quite possibly the best breakfast ever.

IMG_1020

IMG_1022  IMG_1019  The line went out the door to wait to get a seat, I was the lucky one that got to stand outside - thanks a lot guys! ha ha (at least it was a nice day!)

After breakfast we stopped by an Italian food store and I picked up some fresh spices (oregano & rosemary), some bowtie pasta, and a loaf of bread.  Then we split up the guys went to do guy things and the girls went to go girls things (shopping!) Tabitha and I probably spent an 1 hr at DSW - I found three pairs of shoes for $31! I was quite proud of myself.  Then we headed to the mall and I found a .50 cent pair of earrings at H&M, it was a good shopping day for me!  We topped it off at the Hard Rock cafe for dinner - our waiter’s name was ZOO - he was truly a zoo…he said “OH YEA” (like the koolaid character) after every sentence, and his shirt had so many pins that it weighed 22lbs! Before we left, we played a game of Zombies!!!  It was one of the funnest games I’ve ever played and even cooler b/c I won! We hope to add this to our collection of games this year.  On our drive home I started feeling the effects of the sore throat/sinus infection I’d been getting over this past week - not fun!  Overall it was a great way to spend our Saturday!
