Give Thanks

November 23rd, 2007

Thanks to my BFF Kerrie, I am re-posting this with my answers…(miss you kj!)

What are your favorite food items for Thanksgiving?
REAL mashed potatoes,  rolls,  pumpkin pie and my Aunt Becky’s sausage rolls. ( oh yeah, turkey too)

Do you go to the same place every year or does it vary?
Ever since I can remember Thanksgiving has been held at my parents’ home, where they host 20+ family from about 2 p.m. - 11 p.m. LOVE IT!

Do you mind traveling for Thanksgiving?
I while in college spent 6 years not going home for thanksgiving, but thankfully “home” was my Aunt Yoli’s house in Provo and one year I even got to go to Portland Oregon to one of my best friend Jenn Warnick’s home, that was fun!~ Mostly it’s nice to stay home, but traveling never hurt anyone!

Do you prefer a big crowd or a small group?
BIG crowds! That’s what holidays are for, to share your love and gratitude with everyone! Thankfully I have been blessed with a very close (large) family, so big crowds are home to me.

What’s your favorite pie of the day?
I like a piece of pumpkin pie…and the merenge on Lemon Merenge Pies..but other than that,  no thanks.

Is it hard for you to think of things to be thankful for?
Nope, it’s had for me to think of all the things I have to be thankful for…though often times…I forget to be thankful for them.

Is there unspoken tension at your family gatherings?
Nope if we have something to say…we say it! Usually we’re laughing though.

Do you eat until you’re stuffed or are you rational?
I’m a grazer so when it comes to actually sit down for the “meal”I get only one plate…then about 10 p.m. I wonder why I’m so hungry (p.s. just ate a bowl of cereal…there were no leftovers!)

Did you enjoy Thanksgiving as a child?
YES! It used to be at my Grandma Rice’s house in Cleveland…but when all the grandchildren were eating on her stairs…we knew our family had grown too big! So since I was in the 4th grade it was and still is held at my Parent’s house.  We have a few fun traditions, my Aunt Jeni brings crafts for us and we play games. it is such a fun time.

Do you shop on Black Friday? (The big Christmas shopping day the Friday after Thanksgiving. People start at 5am!)
Heck yes!! Now that I’m married, I get to go w/ the women of my family (there’s usually 6 of us) that shop from about 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 a.m. We go to about 4 malls, 3 targets, 2 walmarts, Best Buy and of course we hit up Denny’s about midnight.  It is GOOD  times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What about you?

Kent State = New Alma Mater?

November 19th, 2007

So James had his interview for the B.S./M.D. program yesterday at Kent State .  It went very well, and now we wait until about Dec. 10th to find out if we’re moving south or not….

Closing time

November 13th, 2007

I am going to vent a hot second for a certain major retailer which will remain nameless. As a consumer, I expect to be treated the same as if it were 10 a.m. in the morning vs. 8:45 p.m.  I too have been in retail for 3 years and have spent many times, staring at people who are “just looking” at 8:55 p.m. when the store closes at 9 p.m., however if it were a customer who needed assistance in purchasing something, I would do whatever they needed…that’s what we’re there for.  Well my service for said retailer, was the complete opposite. Granted she was a cheerful sales person, she was not very detail oriented.  Not only did she almost forget to give me the receipt, I returned home to find the HUGE security tag still on the back of my newly purchased suit jacket I NEEDED to wear to work tomorrow due to a huge meeting. BOO.  So now, I have to go back to the store and either return the jacket or wait to get the tag taken off…and now I have nothing to wear to my big meeting at work tomorrow.  *sigh*  (I know I will read this post and laugh at myself, but I am not deleting this.)

Thanks, James

wedding 1IMG_0712

This past week we celebrated two great events: Our 1 year anniversary and Kim and John’s wedding. We now share the same anniversary date: November 3rd. It will be a special day for both of us. It is crazy to think that James and have been husband and wife for a year and 3 days now! Yay!! Kim’s wedding was perfect, they were married in the Las Vegas LDS temple. It was awesome. It was fun to catch up on a lot of friends that I hadn’t seen in a long time and just have some good ol’ fun. If you click  here you can see all the fun pics from our trip.  We left on Halloween night and basically from Thursday-Sat. we were wedding central, it was so fun! I was glad we were able to help, I remember all too clearly how stressed I was the days leading up to our wedding.  It was so fun to see Kim be so happy and get to know John better!  The day of the wedding was perfect.  We were also able to do a session before their ceremony, so it was a special day for us.  After the wedding we headed down to the “strip” to start our little 1 yr anniversary.  We stayed at the Luxor Sunday night.  Here’s a rundown of our little trip:

1. Buffets - We should have ate more to really get our money’s worth!!!

2. Walking around - didn’t feel bad for eating too much as we probably walked 10 miles in one day! (not really)

3.  Blue Man Group - it was a cool show seeing as it was our first in Vegas. A little different than we expected, but still fun.

4.  Madame Tussauds - I love museums, so this was fun and it was free!

5.  Gondola -  This was for the romantic in me.  It was fun, and p.s. the “authentic”gondola’s have little motors. but who cares!!!

It was just a perfect week for us. We figure that with James starting school soon and everything that will be going on it’ll be quite a while till we can go on another week long vacation! So we soaked it up while we could!!!!!

In other quick news speaking of school….James was accepted to Kent State!! He has an interview on Nov. 18th.  While he hasn’t formally been “accepted” into the program, I know he’ll nail the interview. We’re so excited!!!!!

I was tagged!

November 7th, 2007

This post is all about me. I have been tagged by my cutie friend Laura Nelson. I challenge any and all who read this post, to re-post 6 things about themselves. Here it goes!

1. Sometimes I have random thoughts at the most odd times. I can’t help but burst out my randomness to whomever I’m with. For example. This past weekend when we were in line for a show in Vegas I told James that I needed to scrub my feet.

2. I secretly wish I knew how to play the piano, sew and cook from scratch. That’ll probably never happen, but I am content with the few talents I do have including making a mean box of mac and cheese :)
3. I often get frustrated easily…but I just as easily forgive and forget. I don’t think I’ve ever held a grudge that lasted for more than 48 hours, and that may have happened only once. Living in anger is just a waste of time.

4. I auditioned for American Idol when it came to Cleveland. Obviously I didn’t get very far, but it was a good time. Many people have asked what it was like, it was the first week in August so it was very hot. Before we were given a # and signed the waiver, it was like waiting in line for a ride at Cedar Point for eight hours. I got some sun that day. I was told I had a strong voice and I did a good job. I have to admit for a split second I thought I might get to sing in front of Paula and Simon, but I didn’t, sad for them. ha ha. Below are some pics of my friend Mike and I waiting in line and where we slept (it was at Brown’s stadium) It was out of control. Over 25,000 people auditioned.

5.  I love talking to strangers and meeting new people.  Yesterday when we were on the tram at the Vegas airport to get to our gate we started talking with this couple next to us, by the end of the ride I had my new friend Lisette’s number! She told us to give her a call the next time we go on a vacation so that we can use their time share! Who knows if I’ll ever actually call her (although it is a sweet deal!) But it’s just fun to meet new people.

6.  One time in college my friend Lauren and I bought 7-Eleven T-shirts and drove all through Utah stopping at every 7-Eleven we could find and telling the clerks we were on a road trip from South Carolina (where Lauren was from) and that we too were 7-Eleven employees doing a contest.  The contest was this: Whichever employee stops at the most 7-Eleven’s and takes pictures w/ the clerks gets a week’s paid vacation! It was funny to hear their reactions, we took lots of very random pictures.  They all believed us but wondered why they hadn’t heard of the contest.  It was good times.  See what I mean about random? I’ll have to dig up the pictures since they were back in the day when digitals were not really common. (like i’m so old, ha ha)  There’s even this one picture of me behind the counter checking someone out at the cashier! Like I knew what I was doing!!!!

So, there you have it 6 tidbits you may or may not have known about me.  I hope to find out more about YOU!
